Abagail Hurd

Abagail Hurd (she/her) is a Childbirth International Certified Postpartum Doula with experience in both birth and postpartum doula work through her involvement with the UVMMC Volunteer Doula Program. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 2023 with a B.S. in Microbiology and broadened her studies with coursework in French, Women’s Studies, and Public Health. She is particularly interested in the ways microbiology and public health intersect with pregnancy, birth, and newborn care.

Abagail believes doulas can play an important role in addressing inequities in women’s health. She values having a knowledgeable, open-minded advocate in a family’s corner and enjoys learning from birth and postpartum practices and philosophies across cultures. She is honored to witness and support the intense personal growth that can occur during the postpartum period for birthing people, babies, and family units. Abagail especially enjoys providing overnight support, when a good night’s sleep can help parents reconnect with their confidence and resilience.

In addition to her doula work, Abagail works as a microbiologist at an environmental laboratory in Williston. She enjoys spending time at home with her partner, Austin, their dachshund, Watson, and their cat, Mittens. Abagail grew up on a dairy farm in Vermont and still enjoys visiting and caring for the farm animals when she travels home. She also enjoys casual downhill skiing in the winter, cooking, baking, and—just as importantly—eating.
