Paying It Forward
to Bridge the Gap Initiative
VDC Resale Program
VDC collects donated maternity and baby goods to sell back to the community for a steeply discounted price. From maternity clothes to pumping parts and baby gear galore, families in need have the opportunity to purchase goods they might not be able to afford at full price. All proceeds go directly into the VDC Lake Fund to support more families.
If you would like to donate goods to the resale program, please email info@VermontDoulaCompany.com.
VDC Lake Fund
VDC knows how important doula support is and believes every person deserves this support regardless of economic status. The Lake Fund helps bridge the financial gap that can be a barrier to care. Similar to how a lake has many streams flowing into one source, the VDC “Lake Fund” has several income sources that make it up.
Families can directly donate to the VDC Lake Fund. Either through a monetary contribution or a purchase of services, families can give the gift of doula care to other community members who may otherwise not have the opportunity to access support. If you are looking to give back to the community in a meaningful way, please follow the link to our Lake Fund below.
FAQs
+ What are the benefits of doula care?
There are countless physical and emotional benefits of having doula support. For more detailed information about the evidence behind the benefits of doula care, visit Evidence Based Birth.
+ Why choose a doula agency or group over a solo doula?
In our world "two heads are always better than one"--not only do families who work with Vermont Doula Company get one doula, they get two! Many doulas work in a solo practice and rely on random back up doulas (if they even have one at all). At Vermont Doula Company, we have built-in back ups. In addition to their core team of two doulas, VDC families also have access to the knowledge and support of the company's co-founders, Haley and Mary Kate.
We at VDC pride ourselves on providing individualized support and care and we beautifully acheive this using a team model. After your initial consult with one of our co-founders, you will be matched with your proposed team of doulas. These will be your core two doulas who will support you throughout your time with us. You will get to know both of them and they you.
In the words of one of our doula mentors "Life is Lifey" and you never know what might happen. Especially in these uncertain times, you can be rest assured that you will have one of your doulas by your side every step of the way. With our unique model you are guranteed to have the support you trust.
+ What is the cost for services?
To learn more about the investment for doula services, schedule a consultation to see what services are right for your family. VDC helps our clients navigate payment options including working with insurance companies, setting up personalized payments plans, and accessing the Lake Fund.
Most major private insurance companies, as well as Medicaid in VT, do not currently cover doulas. However, many families successfully pay with their HSA or FSA accounts. Additionally, those who have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont who enroll in the Better Beginnings Program have the option of the “Help at Home" reward which VDC postpartum support qualifies for.
Also, adding doula services to a baby registry is a great way for families to help pay for services! Families love to pay for doula support for their loved ones.
+ What is your illness policy? What if my doula is sick or unavailable when I need them?
VDC holds high health and safety standards to protect our familes. One of the benefits of having a team of two doulas for labor supporrt is that in the event one is unwell, the other can attend your birth. For postpartum, we often work in teams which adds flexibility in the event a doula isn't able to attend their shift. The agency owner's are always available for as an extra layer of support.
+ At what hospitals do you support birthing familes?
We work with familes who are delivering at UVMMC, NMC, Copley, Gifford, CVMC, CVPH, Porter, NVRH, and Gentle Landing Birth Center.
+ Do VDC Doulas attend home births?
We support families giving birth at home (with a certified midwife present) delivering within around 1.5 hours of Burlington, Vermont.
+ Do you have a physical location?
VDC has an office space in South Burlington, Vermont where we hold our classes, groups, and prenatal meetings with familes. We are convieniently located at 30 Farrell Street Suite 100.
