Overnight Postpartum Doula/Newborn Care Specialist

If so, Vermont Doula Company is seeking dedicated and compassionate Overnight Postpartum Doulas and Newborn Care Specialists to join our team!

We are committed to empowering parents, fostering strong bonds, and ensuring a smooth transition into the new normal that having a new baby brings.

Position Overview:

As an Overnight Postpartum Doula or Newborn Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in helping families adjust to life with a newborn. You will provide expert guidance, hands-on support, and emotional reassurance during the nighttime hours, allowing parents to rest, recover, and bond with their little one. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing overnight care to families sometime between the hours of 9:00pm-6:00am.  Shifts are typically 8 hours in length.

  • Helping care for newborn babies (singletons or twins), including feeding, diapering, soothing techniques, and ensuring a safe sleep environment.

  • Assisting parents with establishing healthy sleep habits and routines for their baby.

  • Educating and empowering parents on newborn care, feeding techniques, and postpartum recovery.

  • Doing light, quiet housework while the family sleeps (such as folding laundry, restocking changing stations and washing dishes).

  • Providing emotional support, active listening, and encouragement to parents as they navigate the challenges of early parenthood.

  • Monitoring the well-being of both the baby and the parents, recognizing and addressing any potential concerns or issues (such as through community referrals etc.)

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as an Overnight Postpartum Doula or Newborn Care Specialist preferred, however we will accept candidates who are willing to train and eventually certify.

  • Background in infants, postpartum care, nannying or lactation consulting.

  • Strong knowledge of newborn care, feeding support, and safe sleep guidelines.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with families.

  • Compassionate, nurturing, and patient demeanor.

  • Reliable and flexible availability to work overnight shifts, including occasional weekends.

  • Fondness for evening/nighttime and potentially do well with non-routine sleep.

  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and professional boundaries.

  • Reliable transportation and childcare (if applicable)

  • Fully vaccinate, including Covid19 and seasonal influenza

*If not looking for long term employment, VDC may consider a 3-6 month temporary commitment.
